How October Closes, Week by Week
The 2026 dates that change what a day in the Dolomites can include.
1–11 October
Alta Badia and Arabba/Marmolada lifts close on the 4th. The Verona and Lake Garda coach tours make their last runs. The Cinque Torri chairlift and San Martino's lifts close on the 11th. Most huts are already shut.
12–18 October
Usually the heart of the larch season. Cortina's lift area, including the Lagazuoi cable car, closes on the 18th. The Lake Sorapis guided hike's last listed date is the 20th.
19–31 October
The clocks go back on the 25th. Seceda, the Alpe di Siusi and the 3 Cime lifts are still running. The Tre Cime toll road usually closes at the end of the month, earlier if it snows.

What's Open, What's Closed, and What to Book
Can you still visit Tre Cime? Is Seceda open? Are tours running? The answers for each week.
October is the month Dolomites searches become practical questions. Can I still get to the Tre Cime? Is Seceda open? Will my tour run? The answer is usually yes, but not everywhere and not all month. The season doesn’t finish on one date. Each valley closes its lifts on its own schedule, the huts close earlier still, and several summer tours stop in the first week.
This page puts the 2026 dates in one place and then says which day tours make sense in each part of the month.
The short answer
- Lakes, towns and valley roads: open all month. Misurina, Cortina and Lago di Braies are all reachable.
- Lifts: closing area by area, from 4 October (Alta Badia, Arabba) to 2 November (Seceda, Alpe di Siusi), with a few later still.
- Mountain huts: mostly closed by the start of October.
- Tre Cime toll road: usually open until the end of October, but closed whenever there is snow or ice.
- Day tours from Venice: running. The coach tour’s last date is 31 October, and the minivan tours continue into November.
- Day tours from Verona and Lake Garda: finished in the first days of October.

Area dates come from the Dolomiti Superski summer list. Some individual lifts inside an area close earlier, so check the specific lift before you build a day around it.

Two things stand out. Cortina, the town most Venice day trips visit, loses its lifts on 18 October, and the Cinque Torri chairlift a week before that. Val Gardena keeps Seceda and the Alpe di Siusi running into November, which is unusually late. If riding a lift up to the high meadows matters to you in late October, that is the side of the Dolomites to go to. See Seceda and Val Gardena in autumn.
Tre Cime di Lavaredo in October
You can still see the Tre Cime from Lake Misurina and from roadside viewpoints all month, and several Venice day trips stop at one. Walking the loop around them is harder to plan. The toll road up to Rifugio Auronzo costs €40 per car, needs an online booking, usually stays open until the end of October, and closes whenever there is snow or ice on it. The huts on the loop mostly shut in late September: Rifugio Locatelli published its 2026 season as ending on 27 September. On a clear, dry October day the loop is superb, but carry all your own food.
Some Tre Cime tours on GetYourGuide list dates into November and beyond. That shows the listing is open, not that the road will be, so ask the guide before you travel. Tre Cime in September and October has the details.
Lago di Braies in October
Braies is one of the best places to be this month, and easier to reach than in summer. The rule that requires a booked parking space to drive to the lake between 9am and 4pm runs only from 1 July to 15 September. In October the road is open, the larches on the slopes turn gold, and the crowds are much smaller. The rowing boats wind down during the month, so don’t count on one late in October. Which tours still run in October
When we read GetYourGuide’s calendars in September 2026, this is what we found.
Stopped in early October: the Verona day tour to Sass Pordoi and Ortisei (last date 2 October), the Lake Garda coach tours (the Likegarda tour’s last date was 9 October), and the Ortisei bus tour to Lago di Braies, which had no October dates at all.
Stopped during October: the guided Lake Sorapis hike (last date 20 October), the custom autumn-colours hike near Cortina (18 October), and the Seceda e-bike and private Seceda hike (late October).
Running all month and into November: the Venice minivan tours: the Cortina and two lakes day, the Braies, Tre Cime view and Cortina trip, the Misurina small-group day and the drone-video lakes loop, among others.
Running to 31 October: the Best of the Dolomites coach tour, featured at the top of this page. It suits October because it needs nothing that closes: no chairlift, no hut, no toll road. You get seventy minutes in Cortina, two hours at Lake Misurina and a walk at Auronzo, with a tour guide on board. The operator runs it in all weather, and at $113 it’s the lowest price from Venice.
What to book, depending on your dates
- 1–10 October: most options are still open. This is the last chance for the Lake Garda tour and a good window for guided hikes while the Cortina lifts still run.
- 11–20 October: usually the peak of the larches. A lake day is the safest plan — Braies, Misurina, Landro — see foliage tours.
- 21–31 October: from Venice, book a minivan tour or the coach tour. For lifts, go to Val Gardena. Keep the Tre Cime loop as a plan to confirm on the day.
Weather and daylight
October in Cortina averages daytime highs of around 10°C, with frost likely overnight and the first snow possible on the passes. Clear days can be very bright, and grey ones can hide the peaks completely. The clocks go back on Sunday 25 October, so late-month tours finish their drive back in the dark. Bring warm layers, a waterproof and shoes with grip for lakeshore paths that may be icy in the morning.

The only thing I would say is thag on the booking it’s made very clear that leaving the meeting point at 8am sharp and the bus will wait for no one so be on time yet 2 people didn’t show up at the meeting point and we were 5 minutes late leaving and again on the 2nd stop at the lake there were 3 people late to the bus and we waited for these 3 people meaning it all delayed us even more and they weren’t just 5 minutes late. That was retreating as it clearly states the bus can’t wait and if your late then you will need to find your own way back and the guide didn’t stick to this making us all wait on the bus. All 3 stops were lovely and worth doing Lake misurina was the best in my opinion as had the longest here and it was absolutely gorgeous"

Dolomites in October — What's Still Open
Lifts, roads, huts and tours, with the 2026 dates.
For colour and quiet, yes. The larches turn gold, especially in the second and third weeks of the month, and the summer crowds have gone. The trade-off is that the season closes in stages: lifts, huts and some roads shut on different dates in different valleys, so the plan has to fit what is still open that week.
In 2026: Val Gardena and the Alpe di Siusi, including Seceda, to 2 November; the 3 Cime area to 8 November; Val di Fassa to 11 November; Cortina to 18 October, but the Cinque Torri chairlift only to 11 October; San Martino to 11 October; Alta Badia and Arabba/Marmolada to 4 October. Individual lifts can close earlier than their area.
The trails are not closed, but getting there changes. The toll road to Rifugio Auronzo is usually open until the end of October and closes in snow or ice. Yes. In 2026 the Ortisei–Furnes gondola and the Furnes–Seceda cable car run until 2 November, later than most lifts in the Dolomites. Tickets use booked time slots. See Seceda and Val Gardena in autumn.
Yes, and access is easier than in summer. The daytime road restriction that requires a booked parking space runs only from 1 July to 15 September. The boathouse and rowing boats wind down for winter, so do not count on a boat in late October. See Braies in autumn.
From Venice, yes: the minivan tours we checked had dates to the end of October, and the coach tour's last date was 31 October. From Lake Garda and Verona the summer coach tours stopped early — 2 October for Verona and the first half of October for Lake Garda in 2026.
Few of the high ones. Many rifugi close in late September; a handful near lifts stay open while their lift runs. On a hiking day in October, carry your own food and check each hut individually.
